WORLD ALLIANCE OF MOBILE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES & PASTORALISTS
🇲🇱 In Mali, the social struggle for land and food sovereignty since the early 2000s successfully resulted in the passing of an Agricultural Land Law. The law was co-created with the civil society and implemented at the community level, with an effort to include marginalized groups, notably women and youth.🏽 Faced with expropriations to make space for large agro-industrial projects, multiple peasant groups and communities organized together with several civil society organizations, composing CMAT. They opposed land dispossession and fought for a law that recognizes their customary land rights. Having co-written and negotiated the law based on the tenure guidelines and the needs of communities, the social organizations achieved an official land tenure system that recognizes and protects the rights to agricultural land of rural communities. They then worked on implementing the law through setting up village commissions in which women and youth took an active role. Read more via the link in our bio.
