WAMIP Joins La Vía Campesina’s Global Day of Action Against the WTO: Our Territories Are Not Commodities

Today, 10 September, WAMIP joins La Via Campesina’s call to action for the International Day of Action against Free Trade Agreements and the WTO.

We stand with peasants, fisher peoples, Indigenous communities and pastoralists resisting a global system that puts corporate profit before people, territories and livelihoods. Free trade agreements and institutions like the WTO, World Bank and IMF have real consequences for pastoralist communities.

They commodify our lands and resources, undermine local economies and enable extractive projects. Pastoralism depends on access to land, water, commons and mobility. When these are placed under corporate control, our livelihoods and territories are put at risk. Our struggles are connected, that is why we join La Via Campesina in calling for the globalisation of our struggles against the globalisation of corporate power.

Our territories are not commodities. Our rights are not for sale! #FoodSovereignty #EndWTO #NewTradeFrameworkNOW
