Global Pastoralist Gathering · IYRP 2026
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
Declaration
Adopted by pastoralist leaders, women, youth and allies gathered in Mongolia, the declaration sets out the movement's shared demands for the rights, territories and mobility of pastoralist peoples.
Prior to the World Pastoralist Assembly, we joined pastoralist organisations in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, for a separate gathering, to prepare a common declaration and bring our collective priorities forward.
We reaffirm that spaces like these must be led by pastoralists, for pastoralists, rather than dominated by NGOs or governments.
We were there to engage, negotiate and defend the priorities of our communities, since we need this declaration to serve as a tool to influence the UNCCD COP and other spaces where decisions affecting pastoralist peoples are made.
Now, we want to bring this declaration to life: to make it a common house where grassroots pastoralists can come together, strengthen our movement and continue developing our collective demands.
As a global grassroots pastoralist movement with hundreds of members across the world, WAMIP will carry forward a collective process of reflection and translation into action. This work will continue to evolve over the next five years, as we organise, build alliances and push for the rights and priorities of pastoralist peoples globally.
