WAMIP members took part in the preparatory sessions for COP17, the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). This conference will be hosted by Mongolia in its capital city, Ulaanbaatar, from 17 to 28 August 2026.
The training was designed to reinforce the strategic participation of Indigenous Peoples within the UNCCD. The first session provided an overview of the conference, its alignment with the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, as well as the key issues and political opportunities for Indigenous Peoples.
The presence of WAMIP at this event is key to providing tools for developing and strengthening pastoralists’ advocacy positions in decision-making forums such as COP17.
