WAMIP – Pre-Global CSO Forum ConsultationKhalid Khaweldeh, Tezera Getahun, WAMIP representatives from the Middle East region, and East Africa region respectively, joined Gregorio Juan Velasco Gil and other members of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) at the Pre-Global CSO Forum Consultation in Rome this week from the 6-7 of June. The meeting objectives during these meetings was to establish a proposal for a global CSO forum in a participatory and inclusive manner. As a United Nations agency seeking to achieve food security for all, the FAO was able to capitalize on the breadth, diversities and expertise of organisations representing a wide range of regions of the world. The conference included several sessions including the introduction of concept “transformative partnerships” in line with the FAO’s Strategic Framework 2022-31, as well as discussions of good partnership and practices/issues at the regional and local level. Most importantly, the concluding sessions’ roundtable with CSO and FAO core leadership, served as an opportunity for CSOs to share their views, comments and suggestions for the design of the global CSO forum as well as the future of what FAO’s strategic engagements with CSOs should look like.Evidence has shown that more inclusive fora like this consultation, where constituencies are well-represented, have helped countries to make strides in hunger reduction. These fora have enabled greater participation, transparency, inclusion and plurality in policy discussions, thus leading to increased ownership of decisions made that ultimately will affect people’s future. This consultation in particular was aimed at enhancing comprehension on how to promote strategic engagement between FAO and CSOs through collaboration on various levels, in order to ensure an effective proposal for the global CSO forum
